Job Description
We are looking for a Medical Coder based in Abu Dhabi.
Key Responsibilities
· Review patient medical records, physician documentation, laboratory reports, and clinical information to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.
· Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other applicable coding systems in accordance with healthcare regulations and insurance requirements.
· Ensure medical coding is accurate, complete, and submitted within established timelines.
· Verify documentation supports assigned codes and query healthcare providers when clarification is required.
· Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical teams to improve documentation quality and coding accuracy.
· Support the preparation and submission of insurance claims to maximise reimbursement and minimise claim rejections.
· Review and resolve coding-related claim denials, payment discrepancies, and insurance queries.
· Maintain accurate coding records and ensure patient confidentiality in accordance with healthcare regulations.
· Monitor updates to coding guidelines, payer requirements, and regulatory standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
· Participate in coding audits, quality assurance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Generate coding reports and performance metrics for management as required.
· Assist with training and educating clinical staff on documentation requirements and coding best practices.
· Ensure compliance with Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi regulations, insurance policies, and organisational standards.
· Perform additional coding and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Health Information Management, Medical Records, Nursing, Pharmacy, or a related healthcare discipline.
· Minimum 2 years of experience in medical coding within a hospital, clinic, or healthcare facility.
· Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), or equivalent coding certification is preferred.
· Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and medical terminology.
· Familiarity with DOH Abu Dhabi regulations, UAE insurance requirements, and healthcare reimbursement processes.
· Experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Hospital Information Systems (HIS), and medical coding software.
· Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Strong understanding of medical documentation, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
· High level of integrity and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
· Fluent in English; Arabic is an advantage.
About the Role
